Complaint that the SABC, during its news broadcast on drug raids in several pubs in Johannesburg was misleading and damaged the Complainant’s pub’s reputation. The Complainant feels aggrieved in that the name of his pub was displayed on the screen during an interview with one of the police officers who participated in the raids. Such display, according to the Complainant, associated his pub with the drugs and irregularities that were found in some of the pubs thereby creating the impression that the Complainant’s business was legally non-compliant. After considering the submissions made by the Complainant and the Respondent, we find that the Respondent contravened clause 11 (2) of the BCCSA Free-To-Air Code of conduct for broadcasting licensees 2009. The Respondent is reprimanded.
