The Complainant lodged a complaint with the BCCSA concerning three broadcasts regarding Zimbabwe during which the Broadcaster allegedly did not either maintain balance in its reporting and/or interviewed experts who were not members of the Zimbabwe AntI-Sanctions Movement of which the Complainant is a member and which organisation is the experts on this topic. The complaint was dismissed. The requirement in terms of the Code is that any opinion expressed during a broadcast should be based on facts clearly stated or fairly indicated. Balance is achieved by presenting opposing views on the topic being discussed. The tribunal found that the experts interviewed did refer to the facts that their opinions were based on and balance was achieved.
