This case deals with a complaint about a discussion on global warming where the words “boil” and radio“fry” were used to describe what could be expected when global temperatures rise. The Complainant disagrees with the expert from a university and demands that the Broadcaster be ordered to broadcast an apology for causing unnecessary alarm.  The words “boil” and “fry” should be understood in their meaning of everyday speech and should not be understood literally.  The interview and statements by the expert were made on a matter of public importance and the Broadcaster complied with the rule that comment on matters of public importance must be based on facts truly stated or fairly indicated and referred to. No contravention of the Code of Conduct is found and the complaint is not upheld.
