CASE NUMBER: 58/2005 – BAKKER VS 94.7 HIGHVELD STEREO- CHILDREN

This complaint is against an insert entitled “Sex in die dorp” in “The Rude Awakening” show, being a skit on the American television series “Sex in the city”. The complaint is that the insert is morally unacceptable.  The only clauses of the Code of Conduct that might be applicable are 26 and 27.  These clauses were formulated to protect children.  Because the “The Rude Awakening” show is not designed for children and because large numbers of children are unlikely to form part of the audience at 7:57 in the morning, no contravention of the Code was found and the complaint was not upheld.  The view of the Respondent that the BCCSA cannot decide on what is offensive or not, discussed and rejected.  Also discussed and rejected is the Complainant’s request that the BCCSA “… instruct the radio station not to broadcast this kind of rubbish”.
