The Registrar received a compliant about a promotion clip concerning a television programme on radioSABC TV1. The Tribunal watched this promo a few times. It is definitely rather graphic in its depiction of scenes of violence, but we ultimately came to the conclusion that the scenes followed each other in such quick succession, that they did not make a lasting impact and that there were also no close-ups which could possibly have a detrimental effect on younger viewers. An SABC committee experienced in children broadcasting also scrutinized this promo and decided that it would not cause a problem. Of course there would be viewers who would be concerned – as is the case with the complainant, who is obviously also well informed. The Tribunal believes that it would be particularly useful for the committee at the SABC to take cognizance of this view and bear it in mind when, in future, decisions are taken on promotions. It is always useful to bear such views in mind.  The promo was also only broadcast after 20:00.
