The Complainant alleged that the Carte Blanche program regarding crime and violence at the televisionTranskei Wild Coast was sensational, distorted and untruthful, and that it harmed the tourist industry in the region, an industry of vital importance for the region.  Interviews with the victims of crime, with the director of public prosecutions in the Eastern Cape, police officers, and ordinary residents produced sufficient evidence to conclude that Respondent’s comment was made on facts truly stated or fairly indicated and referred to. No contravention of the Code was found. Complaint not upheld.
