CASE NO: 27/2002 – VAN DEN BERG, SERFONTEIN, VAN RENSBURG, LOMBARD, VAN HEERDEN VS SABC2 – RELIGION

In a previous matter the BCCSA held that a song by Stef Bos and Koos Kombuis, broadcast as part of a magazine programme, Geraas,on SABC between 20:3- and 21:00 was not blasphemous and, accordingly also not in contravention of the Code. It was, however, held that the timing was too early and that the broadcast should have been limited to after the watershed and as part of e.g an art programme or another analytical programme. The Respondent bona fide broadcast the song again at 06:30 as part of an overview of recent songs broadcast.  The BCCSA held that the re-broadcast was in contravention of the Code as a result of its time-slot.
