Complaint that inappropriate time was given to allegations by TV team that they had been removed televisionfrom a meeting, where speeches were held after a peaceful protest march by 700 farmers, protesting the bail granted to alleged murderers of farmers and their families on their farms.

SABC, properly in the BCCSA’s view, apologizing for not having been in time to photograph the protest march through the streets. Tribunal requesting representative of Complainant Action Group to convey this apology to his organisation.

BCCSA holding that it was not its task to inquire into the allegations of threats of assault, abduction and damage to property. The matter was sub judice, since charges were filed with the Police. It should be noted that the Complainants state that there was a justification for the removal of the team. This is, however, a matter for the Court to decide upon.

BCCSA, however, noted that coverage was given to the fact that the host of the camera team, the local Chair of the Transvaal Agricultural Union, had apologised to the camera team. In this sense, given the circumstances, balance was to a certain extent attained.

BCCSA holding that it does not fall within its jurisdiction to censure a broadcaster for its choice of news. This is a matter which falls within the broadcaster’s discretion.

Complaint not upheld. Tribunal however expressing its gratitude to both parties for taking part in the debate before it in a constructive manner.
