The SABC as well as the BCCSA have been receiving numerous complaints concerning crude and profane language televisionon T.V.  We decided to entertain four complaints which were sufficiently specific and attempt at formulating some guidelines in this respect.  We are indebted to the SABC representatives present at this hearing for their views.  On the one hand it is felt that South Africa has moved into a new freedom of expression era and on the other, a large part of the viewing public does not seem to be prepared to accept this fact and displays sensitivities which, at times, are not in accord with the said freedom.
