A complaint was lodged with the BCCSA against 702. The Complainant, submits that the phrase is an inflammatory, delegitimising term whose primary historical function is to deny Israel’s recognised statehood and right to existence. The complainant contends that permitting a guest to repeatedly deploy this term without presenter challenge, contextualisation, or pushback violates the Free-to-Air Code regarding fairness and balance on controversial issues of public importance. Furthermore, the SAZF argues that the uncorrected use of such terminology crosses into the advocacy of hatred and delegitimisation aimed at the Jewish and pro-Israel community in South Africa.
