A complaint was lodged by the Complainant that the Broadcaster in a programme entitled “Johannesburg Graft Unit” misled the viewers by showing the wrong type of waste bin and the wrong areas where the bins should have been. This was found to be a peripheral matter which, even if the Broadcaster erred in this regard, did not affect the substance of the allegations. The allegations and comments were based on a forensic report which found that the Complainant was probably involved in a corrupt relationship with outside parties, and probably guilty of fraud in that he misrepresented that he had received the rocker bins. It was found that the Broadcaster did make efforts to allow the Complainant, who was represented by attorneys, to present his side of the case. It was also found that the Complainant’s right to privacy and dignity was overridden by a legitimate public interest. No contravention of the Code of Conduct was found.
