The complaint refers to a statement by DJ Adam on UJFM that Barack Obama was assassinated by members of the Ku Klux Klan. The DJ corrected the position at a later stage during the programme, saying that it was a pre-April Fool’s joke. The DJ was suspended for two weeks and received a warning. It is clear from the station’s reaction that they realised the seriousness of the DJ’s comment. While the reaction of the radio station is applauded it cannot change the fact that clause 35(2) was contravened. The complaint is upheld and UJFM is therefore reprimanded.
