Complaint of anti-gay bias by presenter of talk show. Talk show host expressing strong opinion on radioissue of man paying lobola for another man. Decided that talk show host may have own opinion on a matter but should strive to maintain balance. The host did maintain a balance by asking probing questions to callers. Complaint that callers were, screened by radio station beforehand for their viewpoints. Denied by Respondent – screening was only done to ensure relevance for the talk show, not to choose callers for their viewpoints. Complaint of hate speech dismissed because there was no advocacy of hatred or incitement to cause harm. Nor was there any sanctioning, promotion or glamorizing of violence based on sexual orientation as outlawed by clause 16.1 of the Broadcasting Code. No contravention of Code found. Complaint dismissed.
