Wrestling TV has developed into much more than an exhibition of the sport of wrestling. It has become sensational in the sense that pseudo drama unfolds with it. Shouting male and female wrestlers and even male-female wrestling has become part of the TV Menu.
Persons over the age of 10 would be able to understand that this kind of wrestling has become a cheap sensational form of entertainment and that what is seen and heard is mostly done for “entertainment” and nothing else. Smaller children will not understand this and parents need to be cautioned that these programmes should not be watched without parental presence or guidance.
The Tribunal accordingly held that, except after the watershed, the screening of these wrestling “dramas” must be accompanied by 90 seconds of an icon PG10 at the commencement of the programme and 30 seconds after advertisement breaks. In cases where there is male-female wrestling, a PG10 icon must be present throughout the programme.
