The film “Punchline” was shown at 22:15 and carried a 13L classification. The film televisioncontained a scene where a stand-up comic, dressed in the garbs of a nun, sang “I am married to the fucker on the crucifix”. Even if the word “fucker” was indeed “fellow” as argued by the Respondent, the words are offensive and blasphemous.

The Tribunal held that the scene complained about was offensive in terms of the Code and that the age restriction was also too low. The language and the jokes were directed at a mature audience and the 18 restriction should have been adhered to.

Complaint upheld and Respondent Reprimanded.
