SABC1 - "Life 4 U" - Religion

Active ImageThe South African Broadcasting Corporation broadcast a programme, “Life 4 U: Religion” on its CCV channel.   “The Abortion Rights Action Group complained that the CCV “Life for U: Religion” programme lent itself to the propagation of false and extreme anti-abortionist views in announcing that Dr John McArthur, and American preacher, would be speaking at the City Hall,     Johannesburg from 9-11 August, as also in Durban. The presenter’s words were to   the effect that after the achievement of liberation from apartheid ‘such evils’ as abortion on demand, homosexuality, prostitution, drug abuse etc followed. The Chairperson of the Broadcasting Complaints Commission referred the matter to Dr RG Mathie, one of the members of the Broadcasting Complaints Commission. He adjudicated this matter in favour of the respondent. The complainant then appealed to a full panel of the Broadcasting Complaints Commission. The complaint is therefore upheld by a majority of votes, the Chairperson having exercised his casting vote.
