Dr Nana Makaula - Ntsebeza

Commissioner of the BCCSA (2012-); Is Currently a Consultant. She has done extensive consultancy work offering training in management in a variety of settings. She was listed as one of the 20 most powerful women in South Africa by Sunday Times of January 1999. She is the founding CEO and Chairpererson of the Film an Publication Board appointed by President Mandela to transform the apartheid Directorate of Publications. She is credited for having translated the Film and Publication Act of 1998 to fit in with the new democratic milieu and for introducing classification norms which were accepted by the industry. She worked as a Special Assistant to the Chancellor of the University of Connecticut (UConn); she taught at Wits and the Uiversity of Transkei. She is a Board member of the following: Historical Schools Restoration Project (HSRP), Centre for Advanced Studies of African Society (CASAS) and the Early Childhood Resource Unit in Cape Town. She is also a Chairperson of the Personnel Committee of the HSRP Board as well as Chairperson of the Healdtown Resource Centre.

 


Mr Brian Makeketa (BCCSA Deputy Chairperson)

Commissioner of the BCCSA (2008-); Constitutional Legal Reseacher, Masters Degree (Cum Laude) Specialising in Jurisprudence, Media Law, Broadcasting Law, a Dregree in Philosophy and Ethics, Certificates in Policy development and Corporate Governance and Ethics

 


Ms Zali Mbombo

Commissioner of the BCCSA (2008 -); Has been in the field of marketing and communications for over 10 years, having served in the Ministry for Public Service and Administration as a Director of strategic communications. She has also been Executive Manager for marketing and communications for Joburg Water, Senior Communications Manager at the State Information Technology Agency, and from 1999 to 2001, was a leader of the transformation communication and change management team at Portnet, a division of Transnet. She also has worked as Marketing and Communications Executive at the South African Blood Service .Was a member of the ADRP(Global Association for the Donor Recruitment Practitioners) and has presented abstracts at International ADRP congresses from 2007-2011; currently involved in Strategic consultancy specialing in Strategic Marketing and Communications. Zali has a Communications and Sociology degree from the University of South Africa (UNISA), Honours Degree in Communications at the University of South Africa (UNISA), a certificate from the Public Relations Institute of SA (PRISA) and a certificate from the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS).


Mr Alan Melville

Commissioner of the BCCSA (2012 -); Operated as an Strategic Business Advisor to major local and international companies since the end of 1995, with specialist knowledge and experience in Sport Business and Sponsorship, Transport Systems, Integrated Beneficiation Systems in Agriculture and Fisheries Beneficiation as well as Water & Waste Management, Broad-Based BEE Structures, and Job Creation. Prior to this, he was an executive at South African Breweries, which career was preceded by over 10 years in the Media, Advertising and Television industries. He is currently (or has been) a director of several companies.

             

Adv Boitumelo Mmysinyane

Commissioner of the BCCSA (2012 -); Advocate Boitumelo (Tumi) Mmusinyane is a Senior Lecturer within the Department of Private Law, University of South Africa; he is also an LLD Candidate. He holds a Diploma in Human Rights Law (Åbo Akademi University-Finland), LLM in Human Rights Law (University of Pretoria), An LLB Degree (then Vista University). His research interest is approaching the law from a Human Rights Law perspective and has presented papers both at international and national conferences. He was an Investigator at the Public Protector’s Office 2004-2005, and an Assistant Director-Liquor Compliance Unit at the Gauteng Dept Economic Development- May 2005- 2007.

      

Adv Robin Sewlal
Commissioner of the BCCSA (2000); Durban University of technology (1991 to date); served the Faculty of Arts as Vice - Dean;Associate Director & Head - Department of Journalism (2002); Freelance Journalist (1984); Member of the Natal Law Society (1984-1989); Vice President/Legal Adviser/Convenor of Protest, Misconduct and Enquiry Board (1988-1991); Member - South African National Editors' Forum (SANEF) (1990-); Chairperson - SGB Journalism (2006-)

 



Ms Shamila Singh 
Commissioner of the BCCSA (2012-); She obtained BA LAW and LLB degrees at the University of Durban Westville [now UKZN]; 25 years ago she opened her own private practice; pre 1994 she concentrated mainly on Human Rights work representing various persons affected by Human Rights Violations; Post 1994 she changed her focus and ploughed her energy towards Rural Development more especially of farm occupants; in 1998 she was invited by the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court to under go judicial training under the aspirant women judges program, . she obtained a certificate from the Advanced School of Judicial training, sat as an Acting Judge [AJ] at the Bloemfontein High Court; Member – National Association of Democratic Lawyers [ NADAL ]; Member -  South African Women Lawyers Association  [ SAWLA ]; Member – Lawyers for Human Rights [ LHR ]; Commissioner – Small Claims Court – Durban; Commissioner -  Land Claims Commissioner – Kwa Zulu Natal; Board Member -  Cross Border Road Transport Agency [ CBRTA ];Board Member -  Land Bank [ LB ]  REMCO & RISK;Pro Bono advice to indigent people; Panellist on the Dept of Rural Development Legal Service Panel;.
